Biz Smarts
Our role at the BID is to help you do better business. Biz Smarts was created to provide you with exclusive articles and tips to help you tap into a thriving market that welcomes over 86,000 visitors per day!
Facade Improvement and Visual Merchandising Program
You only have 2.5 seconds to capture a shopper’s attention! Shoppers won’t spend their money in your store if you have a poor window display. Your window display is your single most important form of advertising, so make your windows sell! Download our Tip Sheet to learn how to increase your foot traffic and sales.
The BID currently offers a free visual merchandising program free visual merchandising program to help businesses enhance the appearance of their windows and storefronts. The program offers businesses within the district the opportunity to have their store windows redesigned at no cost. The BID has hired an expert visual merchandiser to help you strategically plan, design, and install an eye-catching window display for your store. In addition, the BID is researching additional programs that may be implemented in the future.
Go Green to Save Green with Con Edison’s 
For district businesses looking to save money by improving on their energy efficiency, the BID can connect you with Con Edison’s Green Team program. The Green Team provides a suite of services to businesses that reduce costs and make your business energy efficient, from providing free energy surveys and improvements to offering programs that pay you to use less energy.
Marketing Services
The BID offers a variety of free direct and indirect marketing services for businesses in the district:
- Maps and Directories – The BID promotes local businesses in a variety of ways. We print thousands of district maps complete with business listings regularly and offer a searchable online directory of businesses on our website. The directory can be updated quickly and instantly increases the online presence of your business by providing another hit on search engines.
- Deals and Promotions – Additionally, the BID features special deals and promotions offered by your business on its website.
- Visitor Kiosk – Seasonally, the BID also directly markets downtown Jamaica and its businesses via a Welcome Kiosk. Email us if you would like to provide printed promotions or discounts for distribution at the kiosk.
Technical Assistance and Financial Resources
Part of the BID’s mission is to connect district businesses with the resources that they need to succeed – from technical assistance, employee training, and financial resource providers. Toward that end, the BID maintains connections with the NYC Business Solutions Center (conveniently located right in the district at 168-25 Jamaica Avenue) or the Queens Economic Development Corporation, which provide direct assistance to business owners and links employers with workers. The BID can also connect you with the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, which provides low interest loans up to $300,000 to qualifying businesses based in SE Queens.
